Saw lots of Katrina Damage thru Pass Christian, Waveland, MS. Unbelievable all that is still destroyed!! Spoke with a couple of ladies on the ferry (yes we got ole Ted on the Ferry J) about all the destruction, one said it was God’s cleansing. The other lady gave us great directions, led us out off the ferry and stopped in the middle of the road to tell us about the 30 foot deep water in the town. She told us how they went back in to Waveland after the hurricane a couple of days later with water, piles of provisions and guns. Even Mandeville and the state park we stayed in were still trying to get back to pre-Katrina form. Lots of people were still living in their RVs and FEMA trailers. It’s been 2 years, and it’s still really bad. Also, did a tour of Stennis NASA space center. Picnicked on the closed beaches of MS. Ate great crab cakes, oyster and artichoke soup at Louie and the Red Head Lady and beignets at a Café Du Monde (not the real one, just a franchise deal). Saw alligators, went for a run in Fountainebleu state park, crossed the 22 mile bridge over Lake Pontchartrain. All the people we met were super nice, I think they may even be friendlier than NC folks. Great day!!
