So Sunday night came and five of my closest NSE pals were hanging out in my room talking about Polulu Valley and Greensands Beach, wishing we could have just ne more day in the sun before starting classes again. Tara and Aileen had spent the day with friends at Makalawena Beach, and were missing it terribly. Brilliant idea came- let's rent a car and go to Makalawena tomorrow! We had the day off for Martin Luther King day, so we knew we were all free... and upon checking the Enterprise Car Rental website, we learned it only costs about 30 bucks to grab a 5 person car for the day! We reserved it online, and made plans to leave early Monday morning.

Monday morning, Lindsay and Liz were picked up by Enterprise folks who took them to the rental HQ down the street, gave them our vehicle, and Liz and Lindsay were waiting for the rest of us on campus, with the car, by 8:45. 4 of us squeezed into the back, and I have to say it was mighty squishy. But oh well, it's worth it for friends and beachiness. During the car ride, we sang a lot, talked a lot, and named the car Leila.

We stopped on the way to Makalawena to load up on lunch and beer, and were at the beach around 11... the road to the beach is pretty nondescript; if we hadn't had Tara and Aileen with us we might not have made it. There was about a 1 mile walk to the beach from the lot, and if you ever get a chance to do it, bring sturdy sandals or sneaks!

What can I say about our day at the beach? It was by far the best day I've had in Hawai'i. The water was perfect, and I saw a sea turtle AND a whale. My friends really bonded that day, and I got some "me time" too, which I'd been craving for a few days. I strolled away down the beach, picked shells, took pictures. There were random things to see, like topless sunbathers and roosters. I was intrigued by both haha. I wish I'd had a snorkel, there were little pools and coves perfect for snorkeling in.

The day was perfection... I can't wait to go back!
