A long drive down to Lushoto today through absolutely stunning scenary. Again the fertile areas and then up into the mountains towards Lushoto.

I'm not sure how far up we went but everywhere there were people, often groups of children just by the roadside waving and shouting. We're clearly out of Masei territory here and coming into Samba country but it's still the same story of people appearing as if from nowhere to say hello. Perhaps the transporter system from Star Trek is real after all.

We took a diversion for lunch to some mountain farm where we had thought we might camp. They've changed the rules so no camping is allowed but it's an absolutely beautiful location and so peaceful. If anyone is looking for somewhere to escape to, have a look at www. maweni.com for somewhere very special.

Travelled on to Lushoto for a two night stay at the Lawns Hotel for a break from the travel and a walk up to a major viewpoint in the area. This is a very nice lodge and we have pitched our tents on the pitch and putt course. It does of course mean we all now have holes in our tents!

Tomorrow we are off to Dar es Salam and then onto the spice island of Zanzibar. It's a tough life but someone has got to do it.

Hi Dave and Annette. Managed to catch up on your travels on a very sunny but freezing cold day in London. It all sounds wonderful and I hope you are having a great time. I look forward to hearing about your forthcoming adventures - sounds like there will be many!
