For anyone vacationing in or moving to the Los Cristianos area, and wondering where to do their day-to-day shopping here's one to avoid and one to seek out.
The One to Avoid: SuperTrebol - Hard to miss, when you enter Los Cristianos from the autopista you have to pass right by this large supermarket. In its favor it is maybe the cheapest one around, so it might be unavoidable if you are on a budget (which is why I had the misfortune to shop there today!). However, the checkouts are the worst I have experienced anywhere in the world. The staff are rude, lazy and very, very slow. They have been this way for years, and I have avoided the place for years, but thought, just maybe, with so much more competition these days they might have bucked up their ideas. But no. I hate to moan on, so please just avoid it!
The One to Seek Out: Mas a Menos Supermarket is located opposite the Gran Arona Hotel, and is an Italian, family-run business. I have been using this for years, but of late because I relocated, not too much. I was delighted, when I called in there this week to find almost all the same staff - isn't that a reccommendation for a place? They are friendly and helpful, and if they don't have a product you want, they will try to get it for you. Being Italian they have good quality pastas (though the fresh pasta service they once had is now, sadly, gone) and bits and pieces like bottles of mushrooms and sundried tomates, which are not common in the South. They also have a great fruit and veg department, yesterday it was just groaning with fresh, tasty-looking produce, and a deli counter which carries cheeses and salamis and such you don't find elsewhere. Down side? Well, yes, it costs a bit more, but it's well worth it!
