Hampstead Heath is the perfect place to go when you're sick of the hustle and bustle of London (believe me, it doesn't take long).

Take an afternoon to wander round this vast north London park, with Kenwood House at the centre (made famous by the film Notting Hill - it's the place where Julia Roberts films the Henry James novel). There are plenty of other highlights too: the view from Parliament Hill, the animal enclosure, the ponds, the trails through the woods, Jack Straw's Castle and - my personal favourite - the duelling ground. Yes, folks, people actually used to shoot each other here in the old days. Beats east London, where you can see it happen before your eyes.

When you've finished wandering, you might need some rest and refreshment - there are plenty of good old-fashioned pubs in the area. I recommend the Spaniard's Inn, which sits on the park's northern boundary.
