Heavy head winds. Such is life. I was surprised to find the convenience store I stopped at packed with people. A long line of high schoolers picking up pay checks for their summer 'tasseling'- cutting the tops off the corn. I later met another biker there. His English wasn’t good, but he’s going across the US and around the world. I asked for directions to the library in a Panderia and was surprised and delighted to find that the lady did not understand me! She went to the back to get someone who spoke English before I could even try in Spanish. A dear friend I haven’t seen in a year happened to be moving from Denver to Detroit this weekend - and there I was right in the middle, just off the freeway, so we got to spend a nice afternoon together. I’m not sure I knew how lonely I’ve become until it was relieved. Another friend will be actually joining me soon for a week and that will do me a great deal of good.
In sincerity, and not sadness, I must tell you this - I realize now that for me to be unreachable, unresponsive to emails or phone calls, for me to not call and say what’s up or lets hang out - none of this is new to you. This is just another year without me active in your life. You are a good friend - you are reading this - and when I’m done with this silliness, I mean to be a better friend to you. Thanks.
