Photo “Lovely historic Tudor house”
Kala's Ratings
Overall: Overal rating 5

Built in the 1500's, Temple Newsam is a lovely old house with over 30 rooms accessible to the public.  It is the birthplace of the notorious Lord Darnley, husband of Mary, Queen of Scots.  It has lovely paintings and furnishings, including a massive  Chippendale desk.  One room had a Chinese wallpaper, with pictures of birds cut out from an Audubon's book and pasted on it, in 1827 by Lady Irwin.  Apparently, her subscription to Audubon's publications was canceled due to her vandalization !  Lots of family portraits too.
