And not a dive in sight... *sighs* sometimes it's just not possible What can I say but its not a great place to visit during the Thai monsoon season since it is a mere 1 hour by boat from Thailand.... well I never claimed to have brains!

I'd say it rained none stop for the whole time I was there but that would have been a slight exaggeration, it probably rained for 18 out of every 24 hours, just the rain seemed to stop at night and I was here for only 2 things.

  1. It's a place you can dive from, but not when the monsoon hits as visibility/currents etc etc etc all make for a bad day diving, ok so my research wasn't great on that one...
  2. To do a visa run to Thailand so that I could go back to Borneo and do my divemaster course over a long time (to get me alot of dives or so I hoped)
With the first one out of the running, I ended up having a look around the shops, (oh my god I am turnign into a shopaholic), well it is a totally duty free island, but in all honesty, there wasn't anything that I wanted to purchase.

All I can say is that from what I saw of the place, it's could be a great holiday area if you like beaches as long as you don't visit in monsoon time....

However, it's only 1 hour from Satun, a small fishing town in Thailand with a regular ferry service between the 2 areas, so that was all I needed to be happy for this stop.

Ironically, when I got to Thailand, it was clear sky and no rain, so just a quick hop onto the back of a motorbike taxi (this was my first time on a motorbike... how sad is that to confess) and I was off towards the town.

There really isn't all that much to see here, but it was interesting to compare small town Malaysia with small town Thailand and of course, technically it was another countries Visa stamp in the passport, although, I'm not sure it counts.

Anyway, all I can say was that the ride back to the ferry port (again on the back of a motorbike) was interesting, since it involved a speedy bike ride as the monsoon rains started (no reduction in speed) and yes, I had no coat, so I arrived at the port absolutely soaked, but it was fun, of a sorts.

And of course, it provided the people at the port with no end of amusement, because did I mention, I was soaked only at the front....
