Ann and Sue started this day at the Kappa breakfast at 8:00. Matt and Christie did not have a tee time until 10:00. They were meeting 2 Kappa guys Sammie Harrelson and Jack Cross who had set the tee time for the foursome. The Kappa breakfast was not all your typical fare – scrambled eggs, hash browns, grilled tomato and chicken apple sausage (Ann liked it, Sue did not). After breakfast Sue had practice for the “shoe” ceremony (or as Matt calls them coven activities). After practice Sue and Ann made a visit to the Kappa store to see if there was anything purple we needed. A group of the conclave got together and got Sue the Presidents gavel charm to hook to her Kappa pin. We spent some time with other SC Kappas and then headed back to the room. Since Matt and Christie were not due back and we needed to run some errands Sue and Ann decided to find the Wal Mart in the daylight. When we went to the car we found that the windshield was cracked. We do not know what caused it but we had parked under a lemon tree that had fruit on it and of course the temperature was 115. Proceeded to Wal Mart where they told us it would take about 2 hours before they could change the oil and otherwise service the van for the return trip (Darn – Sue and Ann had to spend 2 hours wandering through Wal Mart). We loaded the buggy with the stuff Sue needed to decorate her state shoe for the shoe ceremony and then decided to stock up on bottled water since we seem to go through that very fast. Sue had her fingernail fixed and then we had a snack at the in store McDonalds. Soon we were on our way back to the resort. Still no Matt and Christie so Ann and Sue decided to take a nap. When Matt and Christie got back they were all about their first experience with resort golf life. They played the Nicklaus course and had met Sammy and Jack at their room where the shuttle picked them up to take them to the course. They went in to pay and when they came out their clubs were gone. Some one had already taken them and loaded them into carts. The carts came equipped with a water cooler and cups so you can stay hydrated. Christie rode with Sammie and Matt rode with Jack. It must have been a good round. Matt shot 89, Christie shot 106, Sammie shot 100 and Jack got a 105 (yeah for our team). After they finished playing and returned to the clubhouse, their clubs were removed from the cart and cleaned (What a life - when do you reckon the Berkeley will offer this service). When they got back they stopped for drinks in Sammie’s room. When Christie and Matt got back to the room we decided to all try out another of the 41 pools at the joint. It was great. The water was like bath water and when you got out the breeze was almost chilly (yeah right, it was still 117). We all took showers and then decided to go to Japanese for Sue’s birthday supper. Selected Hibachi Steak House and then got directions from Garmin. For once it located the place. We did not have a long wait which was nice so we ordered our usual and settled in for the entertainment. The soup came and this was our first hint of things to come – it was cloudy and had all sorts of stuff in it – stuff like kale and tofu. Then came the chef to prepare our meal. Can you imagine Sue and Ann’s disappointment when there was no white sauce? After supper the waitress brought out 2 birthday “cakes” – it turns out that one of the guys with the other family was also having a birthday. We all sang Happy Birthday and got to taste the “cake”. The cake was an orange that had been peeled and sectioned and then the peel was wrapped to resemble a birthday cake with a candle on top of the fruit. Finally finished supper and we headed back to the resort and bed.
Note: New pictures will be posted to the Grand Canyon day.
