Having a full day of rain yesterday should have been plenty of time to read my PADI training book. But no I still had to cram the last two chapters in the morning which began with a 6:15 start. I was picked up by van by 7 and then my fellow new diver, Louise was picked up at 7:30. We were the only students with one instructor a Balinese man named Tenet.
Our first few hours were all about watching video and taking quizzes. Then we had a lunch break and off to the pool. Tenet helped us suit up in wet suits and all the equiptment including BCD- Buoyancy Control Device, Tank, regulator, back up breathing device, depth gauge and air tank gauge. We learned all kinds of skills for taking off our equipment and breathing both with our equipment and our buddies for emergency situations.
I discovered the disadvantage of having a mustache. The mask would leak often and at first it really freaked me out. I would try to revert to nose breathing and that just doesn't work. But I am a bit proud of myself. I managed to work through my panic and adjust to what I needed to do to breath and by the end of the day I was really enjoying the experience of being underwater. I was also exhausted. We were in the pool until 4:30.
Tomorrow is another early start and we will go up north for two days for open water diving.
