After arriving in Ao Nang on Monday, we settled into a very nice room (totally overpriced) and got ready for our last days on the beach. Our room had a balcony which we utilized for drinks after a hard long day on the beach suntanning. The weather was unpredictable, when we first arrived it started raining right in peak suntanning hours. When it rains here it pours. The rain comes down so hard it makes rivers and lakes on the sidewalks and the alley ways. Also, the power goes out for hours at a time where we are stuck in total blackness and have nothing else better to do than to play with our flashlights on the ceiling. Can you tell we have way too much time on our hands. It ended up raining everyday that we were in Ao Nang, but Tuesday and Wednesday it held out until after dinner so we were safe and we got to soak up all the rays we needed before heading back to Bangkok.
Spending time on the beach was great, can't complain with suntanning, reading and swimming. It is going to be a shock when we return home and these won't be part of our daily activities. Since back in Thailand, we have seen a lot of men supporting their speedos and women sunbathing topless. When we first started traveling, this made us feel a little uncomfortable but now we don't even turn a blind eye. Everyone does it, but doesn't mean that those with saggy boobs should. That is something that we don't want to see especially when they are suntanning next to us all we have are saggy boobs in our eyesight. Not very pleasant, but we have found it quite humerous and when we are really bored we try and see how many of these people we will see on the beach that day.
Our last night there we enjoyed our last Thai massage. Talk about being spoiled 2 in one week. Again something that I will have to get used to when going home. Paying 6 dollars for an hour of pure bliss and relaxation, I would spoil myself at home too. Too bad that isn't the case though. After that we treated ourselves to a nice pasta dinner and wine. We both forgot how much we missed the wine, as the last time we have drank it was in Vietnam. We are looking forward to going to home and having good wine to choose from. Then we went browsing up and down the streets of this cute little beach town, and Erin and I did what we do best. Shopping and spending money that we don't have. It's a good thing that we are heading home soon.
The realization of the trip has come when we boarded our last 12 hour night bus on Thursday back to Bangkok. When we got on the bus it was the same bus company we had just after Christmas where our backpacks got rummaged through and stuff got stolen. When we got to our seats, I mentioned to Erin that we should sleep with one eye open as I didn't feel too good about the bus ride. Well, we were right. Around 2:30 in the morning, I had finally dosed off and one of the guys who works on the bus came up to the top with his shirt over his head. He was reaching over my legs trying to grab our purses, where Erin's legs were on top of. Erin woke up in the middle of the act and as she gave him the evil eye, he scurried down the stairs. I woke up to Erin rearranging our bags and checking them to make sure that everything was there. Now totally paranoid, I couldn't sleep for the rest of the trip, I forced myself to stay awake, and saw that another guy came up the stairs with his shirt over his head trying to do the same thing as the other guy. As I sat up he quickly went back downstairs. Erin and I were sure that they went through our backpacks under the bus, as the bus kept stopping randomly letting the workers in and out. One would leave and a different one would return. When we got to Bangkok, they rushed us off the bus, same as the time at Christmas. We were lucky and our bags weren't touched, and I said it attributed to our bags being on the very bottom of the bus. This is the worst bus company we have experienced, none of the other buses we have taken we have had no problems.
So now in Bangkok, we are very ready to come home and not deal with these arrogant Thai people who just want to rip us off. The past 4 and half months have been absolutely wonderful except for a few incidences. We are finishing up the last of our shopping and hoping to find a pool where we can spend the next 2 days at finalizing our tans. Then our biggest challenge is going to be packing our stuff and how it is all going to fit in our bags. Where there's a will there's a way. We miss you all so much and are looking so forward to seeing everyone when we return home.
