Travis let a group of 17 americans camp out on his lawn. We were totally unprepared and YAO was totally unorganized. No Tents, No nets- ha piece o'cake! Played soccer and got really burnt. Talked about safe sex with YAO and the youth.
Homestays- some were paired up 2 to a home. Mel and I were on our own. My family was right next to Travis's house. My family is amazing. We danced in the dark. I drew a map of the US to show them where I live. I also drew in stick figures of my family with name and age. I shook Ba Kapungwe's hand in the traditional respectful way- which I later found is smilar to the tradition in Cameroun. I'm not sure what I ate that night but it was some kind of meat- maybe goat?
Left behind- Mel and I stayed behind an extra day. The rest of the group had more room to breathe in the van. Though we drove the pocked roads in a car at 100km per hour. I spent the last night around a fire with Louis talking about politics, racism, my family, his family, what it's like in america. We've written back and forth since then. Our classes even exchanged letters a few times. The learning continues...
