Johannesburg/Safari Drive

The highlight of the trip would be the Safari game drive. We wanted to go to South Africa mainly for the safari experience. Vast stretches of grassland. Lots of animals. Starry nights. Of course it’s not so perfect but I think it can be so relaxing just being in a natural environment. We stayed in a nice little hut near a lake. When we were taking out stuff from our luggage, we saw monkeys playing just outside our room. So cute. In the evening, we went onto our vehicle and went into a reserve. We saw a lion, a buffalo, some giraffes, lots of springboks, wildebeest and other animals. Watched the sun set, saw the day turned into night, stared at the dark sky, looked at the animals. Life is so nice. I think the only regret we had was that we did not see a herd of elephants. All the other groups saw them but as we were the first group to return, we missed them.

The next day, we went for another drive. Afterwards, we also had a scenic helicopter flight. I had thought the whole idea of going on the helicopter was to allow us to see the animals from a different angle so I was caught unawares when the helicopter suddenly dived. Of course we screamed. Actually, maybe we were not that scared but screaming added a fun dimension to it.
