Nik and I got back before noon from our camel safari. We headed back to the Sahi Palace where they told us we would have to wait for our room. So, we headed up to the rooftop for some hot beverages until they told us our room was ready. Back downstairs, they showed us our room and when we checked on the price, they told us it was 1,050 Rs (approx $26.92) which was not want we wanted to pay. We had upgraded for the last room to 800 Rs (approx $20.51) but when we asked for a room in this price range this time, they said they didn't have any. Ticked off because ever since we didn't book the camel safari with them, the service had gone dramatically downhill. They said they had a room for that price in their sister hotel just down the road. We decided to check it out and it was actually a nicer room that the first one we had, so we took it.
Checked in and laundry handed over as our jeans desperately needed to be washed after the camel ride, we headed out to the fort. Our first priority was lunch as we were both starving. We found a place that was recommended in Nik's FootPrint and ordered some cheese sandwiches. Then we waited, and waited, Nik snoozed and we waited. Finally, I think it had be almost an hour, I went to investigate wondering how it could possibly that that long. We knew the power was out, but that happened all the time! Just at the bottom of the stairs, I ran into the guy bringing our sandwiches up.
With lunch over with in about 10 minutes, we headed out to walk around the streets of the fort. It was cool going through all the alleyways, but sad to see at the end of some all the rubble that had been discarded from construction that had been done. I am sure that wasn't helping with the problems that the fort was having. Done with the fort, we headed back into town to walk around to go through more of it than we had the first day.
For dinner, we decided to check out Handi, a new place only having been opened for about a month or so. It was a short rickshaw away and the guy that picked us up said that he was the owner, I am thinking more that someone in the family owned it. You hear that a lot that someone says their shop, when really they just work in it, or someone in the family, extended family owns it. The place was deserted and another owner came up and kept saying how good the food was. The food was actually very good, they just need to get their name out there.
Since we were not in the thick of things, there weren't any rickshaws to be seen. We walked to the main road and flagged down one rickshaw, but he already had someone in it. Not sure why he crossed to the other side to come to us. It didn't look good about getting a ride, so we started walking. I thought we had to make a right, but Nik thought it was to the left and some guy kind of confirmed it, although I am not sure he really knew where we were talking about. We walked and walked and did finally find our place. I have to say though, I did feel justified the next day when we were heading out of town and we went past the road to the restaurant and I was right, it would have been much quicker to have made a right ;)
