Sadly, we had rainy weather during our day in Margarita Island, Venezuela.  Still, I enjoyed the interesting scenery we got to see on our tour.  Margarita Island is not a large place - 78 km long and 20 km at its widest.  We took a tour through our ship that took us up into the mountains for views; to Asuncion, the capital; and to Playa El Agua, the most popular beach on the north side of the island.

Driving up the mountainside provided us with some nice views.  We did a little walking to see the vegetation but I noticed a lot of garbage strewn around too - a shame to see in such a place that should be more taken care of and protected.  Then we hopped in our jeeps and went to Asuncion.  We didn't get a lot of time here, just enough to walk around the central plaza and look at the little shops nearby.

Last we went to the beach.  Our tour gave us free drinks and snacks (I ate cookies for lunch, so healthy!) and it would have a been a great day but it was just too stormy.  It cleared up just a bit before we left.  One thing I must note is the high volume of beach vendors.  Our tour guide told us they would leave us alone after we said no the first couple of times.  Not true!  They were there to stay and hoped to wear us down.  My sister even got her arm grabbed and started to get a massage, despite her vehement "no!".  Ah, well.
