We drove on up to my aunt and uncle's place in the mountains just outside the capital of Idaho, the thriving city of Boise- population somewhere around 350,000. Population of Idaho City, the closest town to their cabin/house is somewhere in the 200 range. That's hundred, not thousand. I love visiting T&G- they are adrenaline junkies who like to get their fix based from their quiet and relatively remote home in the mountains.

We went waterskiing the morning after arriving, in Guy's vintage '67 boat, which packs enough punch to pull the knickers off you. Literally. When I wiped out from my attempt at skiing I had to pull my swimsuit up from around my ankles and had whiplash for 2 days.

After that, we had some time in the city at my grandma's house. Debbie got to experience a quiet little gathering with some of my family.

There was a cool storm on the road up to Susan's aunt and uncle's place but more importantly, congraluations to "Patti" for being employee of the month (see pic). I'm guessing she gets a big fat one dollar bonus for her efforts. By the way, we still don't have the air conditioning so that was another 4 hours of driving in a microwave on wheels. Anyway.....

The first night we drank a "few" gin & tonics with Terri and Guy. They make a decent "Scottish strength" cocktail which equals a bit of a sore head the next morning but a day out in their boat attempting to waterski and drinking some beer cures that. I thought it would be a good idea to try just the one waterski for my first attempt since i used to skateboard when i was a kid and figured it would be the same, but on water. Wrong. Getting your arms pulled out of their sockets by the jolt of the boat and then struggling to keep balance on one ski isn't as easy or as comfortable as it sounds. I loved it though. I think if i practice a little i could easily stay up for about a minute. Terri was a great teacher... "Think positive thoughts!" she'd say moments before shouting "HIT IT!" to Guy. In water-skiing terms this translates into "Put the pedal to the floor and burn water!". It was on my second or third attempt that i finally managed to stay up for a second or two before smacking my face off the water (which feels a little like smacking your face off concrete.) Susan was great until she got all cocky and tried to "ride the wake" (going left to right over the waves). Very amusing to watch her try and stabilise her one ski when she realised her mistake.

The day after, we went to Susan's grandma's house to say hello. Susan told me she had a big family but holy shit. i've never seen so many kids in one place since primary school. Think there was about 30+ people there (and this wasn't an organised get-together... just family popping in.) Of course i drank my way through it but trying to remember so many names kind of keeps you sober. Really nice bunch. All slightly crazy in a very good way.

Had fantastic time with Terri and Guy. We're going back to see them for Bobbi's wedding reception (their daughter). Will be around 200 people there. That's how big Susan's family is.

Next we're off up the road to a place called "Riggins" to stay overnight in a lodge before hitting white water rapids for 2 days. Shitting myself.
