There are 3 train lines in Peru and we used one of them to travel the 130kms in 3 hours to the small central highlands town of Huancavelica. It turned out to be another transport adventure!

The photo doesn´t do justice to the fact that this was the smallest train you can imagine, it only had 4 rows of seating and we sat in the front row with the driver, the engineer and the engineers chicken dinner. It made Dave jump when he realised the poultry in the sack (at his feet) was alive. It was a hair raising journey as you had to keep your eyes peeled for obstructions on the track which could derail us. We avoided a tree trunk, a rock, numerous sheep, cows and donkeys and it was a wonder the only casualty was one unlucky dog.

Huancavelica was really nice, nestled in amongst volcanic peaks and beautiful countryside. We only stayed one night, and took a guided tour for an afternoon up into the surrounding countryside. This gave us a great insight into how rural Peruvians live and work.

That evening we took a bus to Pisco... transport adventure No 3!

Cute train, Lily would have loved it - how long was the journey? Photos are great - keep them coming. You both look well - did you climb up that mountain? When are you going to Machu whatsit! hugs and kisses K&B xx
