So, overall, I really liked Hoi An... and not only because it was finally a tropical place, and not only because I could get clothes tailor-made for cheap!!, but because it had a really good feel to it. Yah, okay, probably those first two reasons too!!
Day 1 ended with my last entry
Day 2 was beach day!! We rented bikes(less than $1), and biked the 5km to Cau Dia beach. It was a fabulous day, and we really enjoyed it. Back to the tailor's for fittings, and more ordering :), another swim before bed.
Day 3 was a trip to My Son temple, which is a complex not too far out of Hoi An that is probably a (very small) taste of what we will see at Ankor Wat in Cambodia--look it up to see what I'm talking about! It was really pretty, and amazing that it's standing after so many centuries(6 or 7 I think)... there was actually more standing of it before the war(s), and it was bombed in 1948 and 1969. You can even still see the craters the bombs made. Quite the impression. After MySon we went back to Hoi An by boat, which was pretty nice, despite lunch(which was glued together rice with ground up nuts, sugar AND salt on top), and it was really pretty coming back into the town. To the tailors once again, for final fittings, and the tailor even took us out for supper!(okay, so we might have spent a bit of money!). A really nice Vietnamese food with all you can eat stuff wrapped in lettuce, dipped in sauce. Really yummy.
Here's the trivia question: What's your best guess for how much the following cost me?!: 4 pairs of pants, 3 skirts, 3 capris, a pair of shorts, 2 tops, a longsleeve shirt, silk pajama pants and bottoms, silk bathrobe, 2 bathing suits, and a corduroy jacket...the answer is at the beginning of the next post!!
