We ate a healthy breakfast this morning, rice bubbles, toast, croissants etc. A couple of coffees and then we were off. We walked to an ATM at Yasmine Hammamet, which oddly enough is a ‘hole in the wall’ next to a literal ‘hole’ in the wall (the bank seems to have disappeared and there is an empty building being fixed up (no windows).

After getting some money, we considered going into Hammamet Medina to do some shopping, however, both Kim and I were feeling a little on the seedy side so decided to call today a ‘day off’. This blog is really short today because we really didn’t do anything much.

The quote of the day came from Billy who while having breakfast stood up on his chair and proclaimed ‘Ouch! I hurt myself on a Rice Bubble’.

The hotel is definitely interesting when you order a ‘Cola’ (not Coke) they have a no-name cola bottle that they pour the coke out of. Occasionally they do appear to have it on-tap, however, the process takes about 5 minutes to get a glass full, as their tap system is floored, and pours out froth only, which they wait to settle, then pour some more in (after about 6 times they generally have 2/3rds of a glass). Sparkling mineral water is called ‘Garci’ (gassey).

At the end of the day (after Dinner) Kim asked the kitchen staff for a plate of fries or chips for the little one to take to the room. It took about 10 minutes for the guy to come out, very proud of himself carrying a plate of cheese. Kim didn’t have the heart to tell him so Billy had to make do. She then decided to ask for warm milk from the bar, ‘Milko’, and ended up with a Cappuccino. So the little guy had cheese and a Cappuccino instead of chips and milk.

It is bizarre that they are unable to serve or keep drinks cold, sometimes lukewarm, yet there is a huge indoor ice rink in Yasmine Hammamet (and pretty well nothing else whatsoever). I wonder if the ice rink is actually a swimming pool when you get up there!!

We spent the day by the pool and had a nap in the afternoon (long overdue), so it was a great relaxing day to recharge the batteries.

The World Cup final was on in the evening, so I watched that, while Kim and Billy retired to the room to play computer games. As I’m sure you all know by now, Zidane lost his cool and France lost the cup to Italy in a penalty shoot-out.

After this, we saw a snake charmer talk to some hypnotized cobras, it wasn’t overly exciting but he definitely had them under his spell (or drugged).

Tool of the Day

The CD selling guy for twice again trying to sell us his bloody crappy CD (we are so sick of his music which plays by the pool constantly).
