March 25
We enjoyed a short 4 hour bus trip to Halong Bay where we boarded our private sleeper boat to cruise the bay. The weather was not as hot as we've been having but we still managed to lay up on the top deck of the boat to enjoy a few refreshments. We visited some caves on one of the limestone islands. There are floating villages throughout the bay and even a floating school. Many of the villagers paddle up to our boat to sell their wares. The crew prepared a wonderful meal for us to enjoy in the boats dining room. Later that night one of the couples had a rat in their room. During the night I swore I heard something chewing and scratching and I jumped into Roger’s bed like a shot. He still swears it was just the rain that I heard. It was a lot of fun, but a bit disappointing with all of the smog in the air and pollution in the water, the sights were not quite what we were expecting.
