From Heraklion Airport (HER): Distance to Aquila Rithymna Beach is 80 kilometres, approximately 75 minutes' drive. Getting there. Buses and taxis wait in front of the airport terminal building. Taxi fares to the hotel should be approximately 70 EUR, and the fare should be negotiated prior to travelling. Price is subject to change. Getting around. Crete is best explored by car. Buses are inexpensive and depart frequently for destinations throughout the island. Crete's bus company, KTEL, connects to the larger cities and more remote areas. Many of the villages can be accessed by boat taxis and small ferries. Taxis wait at ranks in the city centre. Fares are reasonable but travellers should ensure the meter is used. Driving directions. From the airport, take the national road and follow signs in the direction of Rethymnon for approximately 1 hour. At the sign for the village of Sfakaki, turn right and then immediately left, following signs for the Old National Road.
