"highly recomended hostel, has a very warm, homely and coszy feel, great social areas, nice breakfast, free wine@night, clean and safe place, one of the best hostels I stayed in in SA, has a convinient location about halfway between the bus terminal and downtown ( all in walking distance), but there is not much happening around, as most attractions are out of town." source Hostelworld

"Social atmosphere, friendly staff, clean, great location, close attention to details, this is definitely one of the best hostels i've stayed at in all my travels." source Hostelworld

"Not a bad word to say, immaculate rooms and bathrooms, delicious ASADO, staff extremely helpful and friendly, que buena onda." source Hostelworld

"Amazingly friendly staff, tasty wine, cool dogs and cushy hammocks for reading in the afternoon sun." source Hostelworld

  • Location: Rating of 4.5 out of 5

"Hostel Lao is what every hostel should be modelled on, it was easily the best hostel that we stayed in during our three months in Sth America - great communal areas for meeting and socialising, the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help us giving honest advice on activities/tours in the area and places to eat." source Hostelworld

"Excellent location with respect to the city centre and the bus station (all easy walking distance), and most importantly, the staff are really friendly and helpful (you can organise all your tours and get advice." source Hostelworld

"Nice enough, though not as much character as other hostels I stayed in in Argtna and location is slightly outside the main hub, so was tricky to get oriented at first." source Hostelworld

"The ambiance of the hostel was refreshing, the beer is cheap, the crowd was fun but not rowdy, and the location is great." source Hostelworld

"Excellent location, staff and activities arranged by hostel were great." source Hostelworld

  • Value

"Ive never written a review before but felt it was only fair to highlight the value which this hostel provides." source Hostelworld

"Could use another computer, but it wasn't that big of a deal." source Hostelworld

"I had a wonderful stay here for a very good price." source Hostelworld

"It was not inexpensive." source Hostelworld

  • Room

"The only thing we would say is that our dorm room door couldn´t close properly, letting in light and sound from the hall and also the womens shower doesn´t have a proper head on it." source Hostelworld

More information on Hostel Lao

*We save space in doubles, dorms and hammacks for walkins***low season discounts available on walk in doubles**Lao is our house. For 3 years we have been welcoming travellers to stay with us, enjoy our home and see a more Mendozan side to the city. With just 24 beds to keep things friendly, chilled and clean; Lao is a traveller's oasis in the middle of a great city. A social, lively home, NOT a party hostel! The house is located in a busy corner of Mendoza within 15 minutes walk of everything so it's ideal for getting to know Mendoza on foot. A five minute walk from the hostel passing local deli's and restaurants will get you to the Main Street. Continue on from here to reach plazas Espaa or Independencia and the pedestrian streets. 10 minutes in the other direction and you are in the bus station. Infront of the hostel you will find buses to the wine districts. If you want to get off the Gringo Trail just ask us for directions. Our home is a 70 year old town house that we have renovated to create 2 six bed dorms with a bathroom each and a 4 bed ensuit dorm. All equipped with aircon/heaters, a large locker per person, real mattresses, comfy pillows and duvets for winter. Dorms you can sleep well in. Next we converted the former servant's quarters into 2 cosy doubles sharing a bathroom. Set in the stunning hostel garden surrounded by tropical trees and hammocks, these rooms are ideal for some privacy away from the house. Finally we opened 2 luxury doubles so couples can enjoy the social atmosphere of a hostel with the comforts of boutique hotel rooms, La Cava and Tango. Lao also has 2 large comfortable lounges, a fully equipped kitchen, dinning room, terrace, 2 friendly dogs to play with, a plunge pool, great included breakfast and we serve some free wine! Did we mention the beautiful garden and hammocks? Our home is the perfect place from which to enjoy the Mendozan winter with a real fire, heaters throughout, duvets and huge BBQ so you can prepare a great steak under the stars.

Directions

To walk to Hostel Lao from the bus station we recommend leaving the Terminal via the underpasses and walking up Allem Street for three blocks before turning left into Rioja Street. After two blocks you will find the Hostel on the left hand side. Or you can take a taxi which should cost no more than AR$5.Please be realistic when deciding how to get to the hostel;we had a lone female tourist picked up by a police patrol because she was walking from the bus station at 4am! Not a good idea to save 1 euro. Big city rules apply! Also we do not pay commission to the tourist info office in the station so they tend to direct people to a different part of our street! You will find the hostel at Rioja 771 between Zapata Street and Don Bosco. From the airport, we are a 20/25 minute taxi ride.
