  • Overall: Rating of 4.2 out of 5

"Basically wouldn't recommend staying in Naples at all other than maybe one day to go see Pompei and climb Mt." source Hotels.com

"It is worth asking for a room with a balcony (as there are only 2) as they took this into account and we managed to get one, and also to check out the offers on their site which show special offers (for extra nights at low costs etc) We would recommend this hotel very highly." source Venere

"The late-evening trip on the night we arrived by train made us nervous, especially the short walk from the Montesanto train station to the funiculare; Recommend arriving during daylight hours if possible." source Expedia

"I highly recommend this hotel." source Hotels.com

"Overall we both rated our stay as excellent and will be recommending it to our freinds, and we ourselves will be returning very soon." source Venere

  • Clean: Rating of 4.4 out of 5

"The staff were very friendly our room was spacious & clean with excellent views of the bay of Naples." source Venere

"The rooms could not be any better, clean, spacious, more than what we actually needed." source Venere

"The bathroom was absolutely excellent, and obviously very clean." source Venere

"It was also well kept, clean and comfortable." source Venere

  • Service: Rating of 4.2 out of 5

"The room was spacious and well appointed, the public areas beautiful, the service and care above reproach and the kitchen admirable." source Hotels.com

"Well, if people think that do not expect too much from hotels in Naples, I do not think so, because you pay a lot (this hotel was 280Euro/night for a double room) and the hotel I changed offered us very good service." source Venere

"The service was great, we checked in unannounced 3 hours early, the staff welcomed us and made the arrangements." source Expedia

"The people at the front desk were very helpful, and in general the service was very good." source Hotels.com

"Dinner in hotel was an experience for location and service despite somewhat bland food." source Venere

  • Location: Rating of 4.0 out of 5

"Very nice and quiet location near to the lively city centre of Naples with splendid views from the room as well as from the terrace of the restaurant." source Venere

"Take the funicular up to the hotel from the city area, 1 euro Great view of harbor and city from room." source Venere

"The surrounding area is very Neapolitan, fairly rough, but not without interest." source Venere

"Lovely hotel with a great location overlooking the Bay of Naples." source Venere

"Room location was just above restaurant." source Venere

  • Room: Rating of 4.2 out of 5

"The rooms with overwhelming sea-view are partly not very quiet because of a very busy piano player in the open Hotel yard. The roof terrace is exceptionell and nearly for itself worth the room taxes." source Venere

"so they put us into what must have been the worst room in the hotel with no view in a back corner (and we had to go up steps with our suitcases to get there." source Expedia

"Because there were not many guests when we stayed, they put us in a "superior" room with balcony at no extra charge -- we had only booked a standard double." source Venere

"The room was very spacious (room number 514)and had views out across Naples and Vesuvius." source Venere

"The room was spacious and we enjoyed the view of Naples from our room." source Venere

More information on San Francesco al Monte

The history of this convent is long and fascinating. The monastery was founded in the 16th century by Friar Agostino da Miglionico, a 'poor monk' of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual, also called 'Barbanti' for their flowing beards. Friar Agostino built a small cell in the bowels of the mountain that, with time, grew into a more comfortable monastery. There are still important traces of the past that contribute to the enchantment of the place, such as the Chapel of San Giovan Giuesppe della Croce, the patron saint of Ischia of vibrant religious fervour, who passed the last twelve years of his life at Santa Lucia al Monte. He died in the monastery and is buried there: his cell, still impregnated with his memories, has been faithfully preserved and can be visited. Evocative and important spaces from the ancient complex have been skilfully preserved, such as the oven where the bread was baked and the frescoed refectory that still seems to resound with the far-off echo of the prayers and readings that accompanied mealtimes. Here and there you will find fragments of frescoes, old majolica and decorations that testify to the place's artistic heritage. The property offers airport transfer (paying), baby-sitting service, banquet facilities, bar, concierge, conference facilities, disabled facilities, doctor on call, Internet access-high speed, laundry service, lift/ elevator, lobby, non smoking rooms, parking facilities-at cost, reception, restaurant, room service, safe deposit box, secretarial services, solarium and swimming pool-outdoor.
