This upscale bistro earns favorable recommendations from many locals. The building was erected in stages between the 1600s and the 1800s and was named after the workers (scutchers) who, in olden days, rendered flax into linen. As The Scutchers Arms, it was a favorite pub -- until the owners painted its facade bright yellow and filled its heavily beamed interior with vivid Mediterranean colors. You might enjoy such dishes as deep-fried tempura tiger prawns with a chile dipping sauce or else roast leg of duck with caramelized onions. A lobster omelet comes topped with a rich Thermidor sauce.
