Location. The American Colony Hotel is housed in a classical Ottoman building in the centre of Jerusalem, formerly a Pasha's Palace, and has been host to characters as diverse as Sir Winston Churchill and Uma Thurman. The Dome of the Rock on Temple Mount is two kilometres from the hotel and the Mount of Olives is three kilometres away. Malcha Train Station is 7.5 kilometres from the hotel and Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport is 20 kilometres away, an approximate driving time of 30 minutes. Hotel Features. The hotel has its own heated outdoor swimming pool set in the lush, sub tropical gardens complete with palm trees. Massage treatments are available and there is a sauna and fitness equipment. The air conditioned public areas have antique furniture as well as complimentary wireless Internet access with complimentary newspapers available in the lobby. On site shopping includes an antique shop, a gift shop and a bookshop. Tour assistance is available as is free parking. The Arabesque serves continental and Arabic dishes in a Middle Eastern setting while. Val's Brasserie Lounge serves local specialities and continental dishes by the swimming pool plus traditional English afternoon tea with sandwiches, scones, cake and strawberry jam. The Courtyard is in the hotel courtyard and features a Turkish Fountain, lush greenery and fresh flowers; it is open for breakfast lunch and dinner, weather permitting. Guestrooms. The 84 guestrooms over four floors have 19th century Ottoman style combined with contemporary furnishings. All are equipped with high speed wireless Internet access, satellite television with pay movies and direct dial phones with voicemail. Other amenities include air conditioning, complimentary bottled water and minibars. Designer toiletries, hairdryer, bathrobes and slippers are all provided. Guest are offered a drink on the house on arrival. Expert Tip. Jerusalem's historical heritage is unrivalled but perhaps the one thing not to miss is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, said to be on the site of the crucifixion and burial of Jesus. Please Note: Kosher dishes are not served by the hotel or in its restaurants. However, there are select restaurants in the surrounding area that can provide them. The national VAT rate of the full price of the booking will be charges to all Israeli guests. This charge is payable to the hotel.
