An 1898 town landmark restored to Victorian splendor, the St. Elmo has an old-fashioned lobby that's a meeting place for locals and guests alike. All the units here ooze historic charm, and contain many original furnishings. Each of the six standard rooms has one queen-size bed. They're average size for a historic hotel, which means they're a bit small compared to a modern chain; some have shower/tub combos and a few have showers only. The suites are larger, with separate sitting areas and stained glass, polished wood, and brass trim throughout; the Cascade Suite has a king-size bed plus a second bedroom with a double bed. There's a TV in the parlor and the well-regarded Bon Ton Restaurant is on the premises. Smoking is not permitted. There were a few tunnels carved out of the mountains to allow cars to pass through, but mostly the roads were cut along the edge of the mountainside 9a256a47acc641df6afb832e3eb4f553 With us being at such a high altitude, the mountaintops became more barren (note that a lot of the photos like this one, of the road ahead of us, were taken dangerously by Kyle whilst Dan held the wheel of the moving vehicle) The colours in some of the San Juan Mountain peaks were strikingly varied
