On busy Route 100 near the Ben & Jerry's factory, the innkeepers have pulled off the illusion that guests are considerably further away from this major artery. The late-19th-century white-clapboard building has a pleasing historical character, even though it's undergone significant renovations and expansions. The new additions have kept its Queen Anne-style architectural integrity intact. The common areas downstairs are worn to a nice patina, whether it's the sitting area in front of the fireplace, or the newer bar and grill with its Windsor chairs. The guest rooms are all carpeted and decorated with furniture varying from Ethan Allen new to flea-market oak, but the overall character takes its cue from a somewhat fussy country look. Four rooms have fireplaces (two wood, two propane), and six have Jacuzzis. Rooms 14 through 17 are a bit larger and more spacious; rooms 8 through 11 have balconies off the back that face a wooded hillside. Only some rooms have air-conditioning; ask if you require it.
