More information on Chateau de la Colaissiere

Chateau de la Colaissiere is a beautiful 12th to 17th century castle in the fascinating Western Loire region of France. Built in the neo-gothic style on medieval fortifications, this stunning castle is surrounded by a wet moat and has a front and rear drawbridge. The castle has had a rich history and was involved in the Breton succession wars ending in 1420 and the Vendee wars in 1793. Situated on 40 acres of verdant land, this property abounds with charm and beauty. The luxury hotel, Chateau de la Colaissiere, was first constructed by a Chevallier with the name **Colas** during the 12th. century. It was owned and occupied for 5 centuries by the La Poueze family, close friends with the king of France. After the death of the last Viscount of Barbechat, in about 1445, La Colaissiere became part of the Barony of Chateauceaux. During this period, and long before, la Colaissiere and the whole area governed by the castle of Chateauceaux supported Brittany and were in conflict with Anjou. However, La Colaissiere had to endure religious wars: Huguenot invading forces sacked and pillaged the land at the end of the 16th century. On the borders of Anjou and Brittany, in the 15th Century, la Colaissiere and the entire Barony of Chateauceaux underwent trials and tribulations in the Breton Wars of Succession, which ended in the complete destraction of the town od Chateauceaux in 1420. The Chateau has 16 luxury bedroom suites in the castle, furnished with beautiful period pieces and decorated with antique tapestries and artwork. Each bedroom suite is custom decorated and exquisitely furnished with a combination of French-sourced antiques and imported case goods, hand-made upholstery and luxurious bedding. We import high-end pillow-top mattresses, goose down duvets and pillows and 280+ thread-count sheets. All bedroom suites have a full private en suite bathroom. Such improvements were made while preserving the original character and charm of the castle architecture.
