We Do Free Breakfast Right! When most other hostels say free breaky, what they really mean is that you're getting bread, coffee and tea. But this isn't really breakfast, is it? For breakfast we cook home made pancakes (not from a box), usually with some type of fruit in them, scrambled eggs, homemade bread and jams, and also give you juice, coffee and tea. Now that's breakfast!Hostal de Sammy was started by a North American (me) and my best friend (Sammy the dog). The hostel is an affordable yet full-featured accommodation in downtown Santiago. The idea was to create a living environment that felt comfortable for travelers no matter where they were from. From the start, Sammy was set-up so that the traveler pays one price that includes everything the hostel has to offer without any hidden costs. A foreigner away from home myself, I basically found a big house and stuffed it with all the things that I thought people would enjoy. The hostel, spit between 3 floors of an old mansion, uses the entire first floor as common space. This includes the kitchen, dinning room, game room, computer room, living room as well as the back patio.Game room amenities include a pool table, foosball, a PS2 (with its own gaming couch!), an 8-speaker sound system as well as a ping-pong table on the patio. The computer room has 5 computers (microphones and webcams on every computer) with free unlimited internet and free laser printing. In the living room we have a HUGE 61-inch TV, satellite, a DVD player, and over 150 movies loaded and ready to go on our media center. At the back of the house there's a great patio with a large built-in BBQ ready whenever you need it.
Directions
To get to the hostel from the main BUS TERMINAL in Santiago, you can take the metro (subway) which is located just outside. Once inside, the trains go in two directions, labeled San Pablo and Escuela Militar. These are the last stations on both ends of the line. Make sure that you go in the direction of Escuela Militar. You will only need to take the train to Metro Republica. Walking out of the station, walk West (away from the mountains) about one block. This will bring you to Av. Republica. Walk down Av. Republica 5 blocks and turn right onto Toesca. The hostal is about half-way down the block on the right side of the street. From the AIRPORT, just walk outside the terminal and look for small mini-vans that say 'TransVip'. This is a shared transfer that can bring you to the hostel for 4.500CLP (about$9.00) without the hassles of a taxi. It's possible to get a taxi for about 10.000CLP, regardless of the number of people in the car, but there're hard to recommend due to the number of people that get ripped off by them. Just stick with TransVip and everything should go smoothly.
