Managed by Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, this 382-room property comprises of two wings; East and West, a Convention Centre and a cluster of charming villas with 32 guestrooms and suites. The West Wing, originally called The Hangzhou Hotel was built & opened in 1956. Shortly afterwards, in an area on the hill marginally behind the Hangzhou Hotel, construction was begun on another hotel which was to become the Xiling Hotel which opened in 1962. In 1985, the Hong Kong based Shangri-La International Hotels & Resorts entered into a joint venture with the Zhejiang Tourism Group. The joint venture saw some major changes with investment by Shangri-La as well as management. The Hangzhou Hotel and the Xiling Hotel were amalgamated and became the Shangri-La Hotel, Hangzhou. Being the first Shangri-La Hotel in China it is the birthplace of the Groups further expansion in China.
