More information on Timberline Lodge

Hand-crafted by WPA artisans in 1937, Timberline Lodge is the reflection of Mount Hoods awe. While it took three months just to clear the road to the site, workers wasted no time in hewing a monument and masterpiece from surrounding materials. A National Historic Landmark, Timberline is furnished with original paintings, carved linoleum, mosaic glass, sculptured wood, stone and metal such as you won't find in any museum. Year-round, nearly two million vistors make this their mountain home. It is a symbol to be celebrated, for occasions both historic and intimate. Come together to explore this must-see shrine to the Alpine, and come away with your own fresh memories. It is like nowhere else on earth. Timberline is the peoples lodge and everyone's success story. President Franklin D. Roosevelt was a guest in the fall of 1937, and stated as much in his official dedication- 'Those who follow us...will represent the enjoyment of new opportunities for play in every season of the year.' Priceless ingenuity can be seen from every arched doorway of 'Cascadian' Architecture and the detail of each native animal carving. Timberline has been an all-season setting for everything from the original 'Pee-Chee' school folders and Spectacular weddings to Hollywood movies like The Shining. Exercise this open invitation and live history as it was made by hands like yours. Like the snowgoose weathervane atop Timberline, the influence of decorator Margery Hoffman Smith stands the test of time. Utility guided every decision- often there was no time to blueprint furnishings until after they were made. The rustic interiors she styled are simple, inviting and cozy. In any one of 60 guest rooms, savor a golden age of handmade decoration and naturally charming ambiance. Should you choose to connect with the modern world the rooms also provide you with computer data ports, voicemail and television. Visitors may also chose to stay in one our ten family style dormatories, with shared bathrooms and bunkbeds.
