Hostelworld and guests have rated Freeman lodge top hostel in Melbourne for 2007 and 2008.Freeman lodge is a small clean and friendly hostel-guest-house that welcomes all travellers. It continues to be the place to visit as a top hostel in 2009, for its special character,feeling and tranquility. Situated in West Richmond it is the closest hostel to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MGC) for Cricket, Aussie rules football and athletics,The soon to be opened new Socker stadion, The Tennis centre (Australian Open tennis), Vodaphone Arena (Popshows) and special events,The Fitzroy Gardens which is one of the nicest parks in Melbourne and has Captain Cook's cottage is also very close to the hostel.There you can go for a jog or a refreshing walk amongst the old European and Australian trees.The City is only a short walk away through the gardens.We think our location is the best in Melbourne with everything so close.There is a gym and swimming pool only minutes away.Also a 24hour supermarket some minutes away.Freeman lodge is well placed for all that you want to do in Melbourne....with the City skyline, but a blink away.With sporting and musik events,a pleasant stroll away.The most beautiful park, some foot steps away.The Beach, yes the sea, a short bus ride away.This is a safe,secure and tranquil place where you may find your true self.It is close to Bridge Road where there is a post office, supermarket, restaurants and funky fashion factory outlet shops . Also the busy Victoria Street with all the Asian shops and resaurants is close to us. With the centre of Melbourne being so close you have access to wonderful shops, theatres a pleasant walk away. Public transport ,trains and trams,are close by, Yes outside and around the corner. Bus to St Kilda beach and Elwood beach ,stops outside the hostel.Facilities are double, twin, triple and shared rooms which are spacious and have a fridge.For a single room , contact the hostel directly. Most rooms also have a TV and a hand basin. Linen and towels are provided. There are also cosy female dorms and yes, they have a hair dryer.The shared bathrooms and toilets are clean. Our kitchen has all that you require to use and there is a cosy lounge for quiet reading plus a TV lounge-common room also available for guests.Our small court-yard with its green,ery and the sound of running water is the place to relax ,read or chat with a friend.Its truly heavenly .'Keith' our popular and loved housecat will keep you company and entertained with his many poses.To keep you in contact with family and friends there is internet access, a payphone and fax in the building.We have an assortment of books to read at the hostel. There is also a public library only a few minutes away.Tour advice and tour bookings are available for the guests and if you book with us we can arrange for hostel pick up and drop off on most tours.Some discounts may also be available.There is free tea and coffee and in the morning there is bread to toast and have with Aussie vegemite and jams. So, just come,relax,rejuvenate and feel at home in our place.For your well being, there are Ionisers filling the air with negative ions.This is a ...... .... NON SMOKING HOSTEL ............For your safety there are wired in smoke detectors and a sprinkler system.Due to the high demand and interest in Freeman lodge....Plan your booking.We can not guaranti extended stays.So when making the booking,allow for this and give your self anample lenght of stay. State time of arrival.Should this change then you must contact us,Also please note OUR cancellation policy, which is a MINIMUM 48 HOURS notice prior to arrival. We havea minimum stay of 2 days which must be inthe same room. Cancellations to us are by email only.Cancellations less than 2 days prior to stated arrival time,will be charged 2 days rental. Also,if you do not arrive and take up your booking inside of 12 hours of stated arrival time,2 days will be charged and the booking will be cancelled.The booking must be paid in full on arrival.Part payment will not be accepted. There will be no refund for days booked and not used.Please note that we do get bookings which get partly cancelled prior to arrival times.However under the present booking system we are unable to show those days as being available again. For availability of those days, contact the hostel by email or phone .(Hostelworld has prevented us from displaying our email and phone contact details. You will have to contact Hostelworld to obtain those.)

Directions

'Freeman Lodge' is situated on the corner of Hoddle and Freeman Streets in West Richmond ,close to the West Richmond railway station. Take the' Epping' train from platform 9 at Southern Cross station or take it from any other city station too.Your stop,' West Richmond' is about 5 to 10 minutes away.Alternatively take trams 48 or 75 from Flinders Street in the city to Hoddle Street in West Richmond (stop 14 ) (10 min). Then walk north to'Freeman Lodge' for about(3 minutes).Taxi from the airport-about $55.00Taxi from the city- about $12.00From the airport take the SKYBUS to the city (cost $16.00)From the city terminal take the SKYBUS free courtesy bus to us .Tell them you are going to Freeman lodge and ask to be let off in George street.We are just across the road.
