More information on Mandarin Oriental Macau

A companion hotel of the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong and the Oriental in Bangkok, this has long been one of Macau's most exclusive hotels, with room rates much lower than you'd pay in Hong Kong. Located about a 7-minute walk from the ferry terminal in the direction of downtown, it used to enjoy a rather isolated spot right on the Outer Harbour, but huge land reclamation projects (including Fisherman's Wharf) have robbed the hotel of waterfront views, not to mention peace and quiet. On the plus side, the hotel claimed a small portion of the new land for its state-of-the-art resort facility, which includes a free-form outdoor swimming pool (heated in winter and chilled in summer) landscaped against a waterfall; a water slide, pool, playground, and children's center for the kids; and a gorgeous spa offering various types of massage, body scrubs and wraps, facials, and more. As for the hotel, although its exterior is rather nondescript, if not downright ugly, the interior is beautifully designed and elegantly decorated throughout with imports from Portugal, including blue-and-white tiles, chandeliers, tapestries, and artwork. Guest rooms are decorated in Portuguese fabrics and natural teak. For families, a huge plus are the baby-care amenities provided free of charge on request, including diapers, wipes, and baby shampoo. The least expensive rooms face inland, while the best are those on the top four Mandarin executive floors with large balconies overlooking the resort. Facilities: 4 restaurants (Italian, Cantonese, international, Thai); bar; 24-hr. casino; outdoor heated pool open year-round; kids' pool; 4 outdoor floodlit tennis courts; 2 indoor squash courts; playground; health club and spa; outdoor Jacuzzi; children's day-care center for ages 3-12; concierge; business center; shopping arcade; salon; 24-hr. room service; massage; babysitting; same-day laundry service/dry cleaning; executive-level rooms; doctor on call.
