There is plenty of untouched nature and a wealth of history to discover on Nantucket Island. The Robert B. Johnson Memorial Hostel, named after a former HI-AYH Executive Director, was built as a lifesaving station in 1873. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The facility is just minutes away from Surfside Beach and only 3 � miles from the ferry docks and Nantucket village. Facilities include kitchen, picnic area with barbecue, volleyball. Don't miss the Whaling Museum to learn about the island's fascinating past. Explore the area by bicycle, inline skates, kayak, or on foot, then finish your day off with a seafood dinner or a sunset on the beach. Rooms are dorm style accommodations. Bed linen and a bath towel are included, but please....no sleeping bags. thanks!Each guest must show a government issued photo ID to check-in. Guests under 18 MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Hostelling International is a non-profit membership based organization, promoting peace through hostelling since 1909. Non-members will be asked to pay a $3 non-membership fee per night upon check-in.

Directions by Ferry: 3 � miles from Nantucket ferry wharf. Go up Main St., take left on Orange St. and then a right on E. York St. (at Bake Shop!). Bear left onto Atlantic Ave., which becomes Surfside Rd. Stay on Surfside Rd. for 2 miles. At the beach go right, onto Western Ave.
