More information on The George In Rye

A beautiful hotel in a beautiful town. Located in the centre of rye in east sussex - the george in rye was recently renovated to create one of the most stunning hideaways on the south coast and has been awarded a 4 star aa rating. The focus of the bedrooms is on comfort and style - each is individually designed with its own fabrics - colour scheme and bespoke furniture. There are marble-top baths with chrome power showers and aveda products and a few gadgets to complete the experience including flat screen lcd tvs with freeview - a complimentary dvd library and dvd players subject to availability - tivoli clock radios and broadband access. Deluxe and junior suites are particularly luxurious with some offering feature beds and walk-in showers. The restaurant and bar form the heart of the hotel. The head chef - rod grossmann - previously worked at moro in london and his menu has clear mediterranean influences. The food is presented simply with great respect for fresh and seasonal ingredients sourced from local farms and the trawlers of rye bay. The bar offers a wide range of wines and champagnes by the glass - including some from vineyards in east sussex and kent. The building dates from 1575 and has an enviable heritage - it even has an original georgian ballroom used for lavish weddings and banquets. An eclectic and contemporary design has been given to this historic fabric using a wide range of antique and modern furniture - materials and local art. The hotel is owned by alex and katie clarke. Working as a management consultant to the industry - alex always sought that perfect opportunity to take his family out of london. Katie was a successful properties buyer and set decorator on films and television. Rye is unlike any other town in england - a medieval townscape locked in time and with a fascinating history - it offers a great escape for relaxation or romance. Just 4 miles from the white beach of camber sands - the sea air is wonderful any time of year. .
