Sue and Dave Scales would like to welcome you to their restored Maison-de-Maitre. The hotel is close to Brantome and 30km from Perigueux. Set in a small stone hamlet overlooking a tranquil green valley yet only minutes away from the beautiful historic village of St Jean-de-C�le with its bustling restaurants.Alternatively there is the local medieval town of Brant�me which must be one of the top attractions in the Dordogne.We are less than an hour�s drive from the airport at Limoges which connects with many destinations in the UK. In the other direction, Bergerac airport is about 85km and Bordeaux 100km.Car rental is easy from all these airports.Our house is light and spacious throughout and furnished with a mixture of French and English antiques to give a country-house feel. Each of our two large bedrooms can accommodate up to four persons and include a shower room and WC. We also have a double room with a shared bathroom which is available at a reduced rate.Meals are taken in the elegant chandelier/candle-lit dining room where a log burner and comfortable seating provide the perfect setting for an aperitif. On beautiful summer evenings we make use of our terrace dining where you can take in the view with a glass of wine.The two acres of gardens comprise a Mediterranean style courtyard with shady terraced seating and to the rear extensive stone terraces with lawn gardens leading to a sun terrace and the large swimming pool with locking cover. The whole garden offers extensive views over the valley.Situated in the Perigord Vert region of the Dordogne we are only a few kilometres from the edge of the Limousine National Park and are close to many tourist attractions. These include the historic town of Brant�me with its Abbey and extensive waterways, the magnificent Chateau of Puyguilhem and the caves at Villars.We would also highly recommend a visit to the Chateau at Bourdeilles with its historic tower and of course the cathedral city of Perigueux.This area also offers opportunities for walking, cycling, canoeing and fishing or, of course, just sitting around the pool doing nothing!Cycles and helmets are available for hire from us.If you are visiting our area to look for a house, we would enjoy sharing our experience of moving to and living in France with you. For more expert advice, there is an excellent English-speaking estate agent within a few minutes drive. Four course evening meals are available by prior arrangement for 24Euros per head with wine and an aperitif included. Directions

From Limoges airport to Le Puyfavard:Turn left at the roundabout at the end of the airport access road.Then there is a succession of roundabouts so follow signs for Aixe-sur-Vienne.After passing through a couple of small villages (after about 5 km) you will come to a Tee junction at which you turn right towards Aixe-sur-Vienne.In Aixe-sur-Vienne you keep going straight ahead and through a set of traffic lights, across the river and past the Limoges pottery shop. You are now on the N21 which will take you to Thiviers. It will also be signed to Perigueux.Stay on the N21 for about 35km until you reach Thiviers.As you enter Thiviers there is a roundabout at which you should bear right towards Nontron/Brantome. The road then takes you past the railway station, up the hill then takes a sharp right around the Atac supermarket. Follow this road out of Thiviers still heading for Nontron and Brantome.After about 5km, take the right turn to Nontron and St-Jean-de-Cole and go straight through the village of St Jean-de-Cole. Turn left at the junction as you leave the village and follow the sign for Villars.The road twists and turns as you climb the hill but after about 5 km it levels out.Look out for the signs for Le Puyfavard on the left. There are two roads to the hamlet but the second one by the bent tree is the better. We are then the second house on the right and have a red post office box on our wall and grey gates.
