There were a few tunnels carved out of the mountains to allow cars to pass through, but mostly the roads were cut along the edge of the mountainside 9a256a47acc641df6afb832e3eb4f553 With us being at such a high altitude, the mountaintops became more barren (note that a lot of the photos like this one, of the road ahead of us, were taken dangerously by Kyle whilst Dan held the wheel of the moving vehicle) The colours in some of the San Juan Mountain peaks were strikingly varied
