In a beautiful, early 20th century building, in front of the well-known Jardines del Buen Retiro, a new, innovating and deluxe hotel opens its doors. Previously, home to the prestigious Spanish Oriol family, owners of the Talgo train company; it later became the Talgo company headquarters. The AC Palacio del Retiro Hotel is now a protected property, which has been completely restored. Restoration took around one year and its success lies in the original features, most of which have been preserved. The hotel is situated in one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Madrid, in Calle de Alfonso XII, a few steps from Puerta de Alcala. Located amid the Golden Mile of Arts, the Reina Sof?a, El Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisza museums are all within walking distance. Original features can be found throughout the building: skirting and fountains decorated with 19th century Talaveran tiles, original stained-glass windows from Maum?jean-Paris, ornate metal lamps, doorframes, lintels and columns, as well as marble floors and oak parquet from the 1920s and 1930s. Not to mention stylish fireplaces in marble, wood and stone. The famous Andalusian, Julio Romero de Torres, painted one of the several frescos adorning the walls of the upper floors. An elegant library finished in mahogany wood, houses the Presidential Suite. An interesting triangular iron lift remains, above which, climbs a magnificent, three-story staircase dressed with a one hundred year-old carpet, made-to-measure by the Royal Tapestry Factory. This unique and cosy hotel is an oasis of warmth and light, which is proud to take the place it, deserves in the city of Madrid, an aim that will definitely be achieved.Fifty rooms, consisting of seven different styles, which demonstrate the individual character that has become one of the distinguishing signs of the hotel; a perfect balance between modern and traditional.
