Predictably, scores of restaurants ring the main square, and a couple are plain tourist traps. On one side, upstairs along a very long balcony that extends practically the length of one side of the Plaza de Armas, this restaurant is probably the best of the bunch, not least because the views of the square are brilliant. The lengthy menu offers platos típicos of Peruvian cooking, of course, as well as well-prepared meats (rabbit and pork chops) and fish dishes such as grilled shrimp, corvina (sea bass), and ceviche. But plenty of people come just for the views and simple fare such as pizza and pasta. You can count on getting serenaded by a peripatetic band of Peruvian musicians, just like you can count on getting accosted by the restaurant's advertising gals handing out free drink cards every time you pass under the arches of this side of the square.
