Originally built as a private residence of the Samode royal family, Samode Palace was converted into a boutique hotel in 1985 and is now one of India*s most romantic establishments. A progression of courtyards at different levels leads guests from public to private areas, and each courtyard holds its own charm. A perfect example of Rajput/Mughal architecture, this exquisite 150-year-old Palace features the most beautiful frescos and mirror work, which have been superbly restored to bring together elements of contemporary style, functionality and luxury with traditional rajasthani influence and design.

The oversized rooms and bathrooms provide a sense of luxury with all the modern comforts with marble mosaic floorings, high ceilings, cotton woven rugs, antiques, old family portraits, photographs and beautifully carved four poster beds.

Traveler Photos of Thar Desert

Sure it has a nice color, but how many miles per gallon does it get? Desert village My camel was supposed to be brand new, but it still broke down. A short stop at a village camel doctor was necessary. Clearly marked with a country of origin, my camel complies with international transit rules- just in case I crossed to Pakistan inadvertently.
