More information on Dolphin Hotel
Dating from 1550 the dolphin has had many extensions and remodeling over the centuries and rather than being designed this way it's sort of evolved into what it is today-an eclectic mix of old and new. This mix seems to work, where Rococo ceilings look down on a modern cocktail bar, where English oak paneling sits comfortably next to a stainless steel and glass bar inspired by the grille of a Bentley GT. Where Victorian cornice sleeps with flat screen TV and contemporary art and where Edwardian plumbing joins with Philippe Starck taps and Italian Glass sinks-it's all a bit odd really. The hotel is a little bit tired but it's clean and tidy. In no way could you mistake the hotel for a large corporate property, but then again there's no way you could mistake our pricing for that of a large corporate property. The hotel has 65 rooms, a bistro style restaurant, a cocktail bar, a lounge bar (24hr), function rooms, a hairdressers, a beauty salon, a massage (not that sort!) therapy treatment suite, a limousine hire company, a car park, six ghosts, three seagulls, two wood pigeons and a parrot. Southampton is the major retail hub for the south coast, with all the well known shops as well as some more individual ones, six of which are situated in the hotel's very own shopping lane calling it Dolphin Lane, home to Breeze-Hair Salon, Orchard Therapies-Massage & treatments and many more. A weekly market is held in Southampton and is just 100yrds from the hotel-with fresh local produce. The hotel provides amenities like bar, Internet access-high-speed, non-smoking rooms, parking facilities-at cost, reception, restaurant, and smoke-free hotel.

Dining
ReataurantThis is the season of slow food. The kind of food that you throw into a heavy casserole dish and then forget for a couple of hours, allowing the combination of heat and great produce to work its alchemy with very little interference from you. Then just lift the lid and gather with friends around a pot of rich velvety meat or hearty vegetables. This kind of food needs little more than a side dish of creamy mashed potato or spicy couscous to turn it into the culinary equivalent of a soft thick blanket. Big, big reds are definitely in this season and Amarone a valpolicella from the house of Bolla is quite simply 'liquid love'. Snuggling up on a sofa with a 'good' friend sipping this wonderful wine in front of the embers of a dying fire is what winter is all about.
