It comes as something of a surprise to find a traditional Japanese inn in the heart of Kyushu's largest city, and an inexpensive one to boot. Housed in a 100-year-old building with a homey atmosphere, an enclosed garden, and rambling hallways leading to simple tatami rooms, each one different, it's a good choice for budget-seeking traditionalists. Its convenient location, down the street from the Hakata Machiya Folk Museum, is another plus.
