More information on Regency Jerusalem Hotel

Designed by David Resnik, one of Israel's foremost architects, the Regency opened as the Hyatt Jerusalem in 1987, and gained a reputation as one of the city's finest hotels. Set on the lower slopes of Mount Scopus, the hotel's seven arcaded courtyards and multilevel atrium lobby settle gracefully across the landscape, with vistas of the city in the distance. Location is the one problem -- there is a free shuttle bus into the center of West Jerusalem, but you're not close to anything, and the neighborhood is not interesting for strolling. But within the hotel's confines, you get excellent value. Rooms are wearing a bit thin, as is common in Israeli hotels these days, but the basic decor is tasteful; some rooms have balconies. The fitness center is among the best in town, sports facilities are excellent, and the swimming pool is roomy, although not very deep, and loaded with outsiders in summer. The dining facilities are all glatt kosher. In 2001, the Israeli minister of tourism was murdered in this hotel, which caused tourists and Israelis to shy away from the Regency for a number of years. Rates are comparatively low; there are often special discounts such as 5 nights for the price of 4, and very good bargain offers on the Internet. Facilities: Restaurant; dining room; cafe; bar; outdoor swimming pool; fitness center (fee); sauna; steam room; in-season children's activities, playground, floodlit basketball, tennis, volleyball courts; business center; large shopping arcade; salon; room service; laundry service; concierge-/club-level rooms; synagogue. Dining & Entertainment: Among the Hyatt's strong points are above-average food services, crowned by the top-class Valentino's Restaurant and theme buffets (Tex-Mex, Middle Eastern, Asian) 3 nights a week. There's also a choice of cafes, bars, and disco/pubs. Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice.
