Chaotic traffic crowds a level crossing as our train rattles through. An emaciated woman carrying sticky rice parcels wrapped in banana leaves prepares to board the train from a small village station. Young Burmese sit by the open door and watch the scenery roll past outside. This was the only part of the train that wasn't sweltering. One of the many incredible golden pagoda structures (stupas) that dot the whole country, rising high above cripplingly poor bamboo villages.
