Asuntohotelli / Hostel Aallon Maja

Asuntohotelli / Hostel Aallon Maja was designed by Alvar Aalto, one of the most famous architects in Finland ever. Aallon Maja was originally a laundry and sauna house for employees of Sunila pulp mill. The hostel was build in 1988 and from 1996 the building has been almost empty, then in 2003 Mr. Ilkka Porkka started the business again.We have 12 - 14 rooms for up to 50 persons, self service kitchens, toilets, shower rooms, 2 saunas, a big conference room and so on.In the same building there is Art Café Aino which has permanent art exhibition of its own and many art exhibitions of different artists every year. It is suitable for small meetings etc.On the property of Aallon Maja there is an old bomb shelter called 'Kulttuuriluola'. It was found last year under the earth in an old cave. It is an unique place for art exhibitions, small scale concerts, performance space and much more.400 m from the hostel we have 2 apartments/suites Apteekki (an old drag store!) and Pankki (an old bank!). Both of them have space and beds for 4 - 7 persons. In the same building we have our new Gallery and art sale shop Galleria Meril� (www.artmerila.com). There you will find hundreds of paintings from tens of artists from Finland, Russia, Estonia etc.15 km from our hostel near Kymijoki river and Kultaa falls we have a river side property of our own. It is a nice place for our customers for camping, fishing etc.Aallon Maja Oy has an other hotel Asuntohotelli Hotel Petkele in Summa area, Hamina, 20 km from Aallon Maja. Asuntohotelli / Hostel Aallon Maja is located in Sunila area in Kotka. You will find it 134 km from Helsinki to the East and only 70 km from the Russian border to the West. The distance from Helsinki -> Karhula -> Hamina high way is only 2 - 3 km.The city of Kotka (old town) is 12 km from the hostel and the other shopping center Karhula only 2 km from our property. You can almost see the sea!
