From Southampton Airport (SOU): Distance to Melbourne Ardenlea Hotel is 30 miles, approximately 60 minutes' drive. Getting there. Regular trains run from Southampton Airport Parkway station, which is next to the airport, to the city centre. A free shuttle bus runs to the harbour from Southampton's central train station. A high speed ferry runs between Southampton ferry port and Cowes on the Isle of Wight. A bus service connects Cowes to Shanklin via Newport, taking approximately 45 minutes. The Isle of Wight is also accessible by other mainland towns: ferries run between Portsmouth and Ryde, Portsmouth and Fishbourne, and Lymington and Yarmouth. Shanklin is accessible by connecting bus and rail services. Shanklin train station is one mile from the hotel. A through ticket can be purchased from Portsmouth Harbour Station for the Wightlink passenger ferry, which then connects with the Island line railway to Shanklin station. Getting around. Shanklin is best explored on foot, although a car is advised for travelling further afield. The Island Line Railway runs steam and electric trains. Rover and Freedom Passes are valid for unlimited bus travel for periods from one to 90 days. Single fares are also available. Driving directions. From Ryde, take the A3055 via Sandown to Shanklin. Follow signs for the A3055 to Ventnor (cliff lift and beach). The hotel is approximately 450 metres on the right hand side.
