A stay at this impressive grayish-green Italianate mansion, built in 1864, feels a bit like a trip to grandmother's house -- a grandmother who inherited most of her furniture from her grandmother. Antiques are more flea-markety than elegant; common rooms are furnished in a pleasant country Victorian style. The 2-acre grounds, a few minutes' walk from Bar Harbor's restaurants and attractions, are attractively landscaped and include a cutting garden to keep the house in flowers. Guest rooms are blessed with a profusion of balconies and fireplaces -- all but two have one or the other; many have both. Room styles vary; some are heavy on the Victorian and are a bit stuffy, others have the bright and airy feel of a country farmhouse. Light sleepers should avoid rooms facing Mt.
