Come enjoy the beauty of Acadia National Park! This is a comfortable and fun hostel in a small, lively, popular town on the ocean. Our 2009 season runs from May 1st through October 31st.The Bar Harbor Hostel is located on Mount Desert Island, one mile from Acadia National Park. We are in downtown Bar Harbor, a ten minute walk to the ocean, a quick taxi ride from the CAT ferry and a few blocks from the Greyhound/Vermont and Bar Harbor Shuttle drop off. (Please note: Greyhound only goes to Bangor until mid June. There is only one bus (the Down East) from Bangor to Bar Harbor, it runs on Mondays and Fridays. There is also the Bar Harbor Shuttle.We are fortunate to be located in an area where opportunities abound for hiking, biking, canoeing, ocean kayaking, sailing, and whale-watching, among other outdoor pursuits. We enjoy being near the forest, mountains, lakes and the ocean.Acadia National Park is easily accessed on the free Island Explorer shuttles, which run from June 23rd to October 12th (2009 schedule) and bike rentals are available in town.The Bar Harbor Youth Hostel has 24 beds including a private room for four. We also have 3 8x8 wooden tent platforms.Our office hours are from 8am until 10am in the morning and from 5pm until 10pm in the evening. The hostel is closed during the day between 10am and 5pm.Curfew: None.We are available for groups.We welcome children of 12 years and older.

By Bus:Peak season: When the Greyhound bus has scheduled service to Bar Harbor, from the Greyhound/Vermont Transit stop, which is also the Bar Harbor Shuttle drop off, walk south on Main Street 2-blocks. Bar Harbor Hostel is on the right.Off-season: At all other times, take Concord Trailways or Greyhound to Bangor. Take the Bar Harbor/Bangor Shuttle (reservations are required) or the Down East (Mondays and Fridays) to Bar Harbor.By Car: (6 hours) from Boston, Massachusetts:Take the I-95 N to N.H./MAINE (Portions toll) (Passing through NEW HAMPSHIRE- then crossing into MAINE). - go 85 mi Merge onto I-295 N via EXIT 44 toward SOUTH PORTLAND / DOWNTOWN PORTLAND (Portions toll). 52.4 milesI-295 N becomes I-95 N (Portions toll). 79.2 miles Merge onto I-395 E via EXIT 182A toward US-1A / BANGOR / ME-9 / BREWER. 4.6 milesMerge onto US-1A E via EXIT 6A toward US-1 / COASTAL ROUTE / ELLSWORTH / BAR HARBOR. 23.1 milesUS-1A E becomes ME-3. 9.5 milesTurn SHARP LEFT onto ME-3 / BAR HARBOR RD. Continue to follow ME-3. 10.0 miles You will pass the Acadia National Park entrance on the right (continue straight) until you reach the stop-sign at the intersection with Route 233. Follow Route 3 as Route 3 (now Mt. Desert Rd.) takes a left here, and then, a quarter-of-a-mile later, follow as Route 3 takes a right onto Main St. going south. Follow Main Street (Route 3) slowly for one-quarter mile until you pass a gas-station & laundromat on the right. The hostel is a white house on the corner of Main Street and Edgewood Street. If you pass the ball-field on your right, you have gone too far.
