The Protea Hotel Umhlanga is a modern nine floor hotel located in the heart of the Umhlanga Rocks, north of Durban and 500 metres from a protected beach on the Sugar Coast. There are 120 guestrooms all of which enjoy a sea view and benefit from air conditioning. Guestrooms are cheerfully decorated and providing modern furnishings, are open plan, and feature separate sitting areas with sofabeds and kitchenettes with cookware, microwaves and fridges. Rooms also include direct dial phones and coffee/tea making facilities, and are equipped with cable television and dial up Internet ports. Guests can catch the sun's rays on the rooftop sundeck that borders the outdoor swimming pool. The second floor houses the Lighthouse Breakfast Restaurant and Bar, as well a hairdresser and a beauty salon. A modern, well equipped conference centre is located on the ninth floor, enjoying views of the Umhlanga coastline and able to accommodate up to 100 delegates. Laundry facilities and a dry cleaning service are offered as well as secure undercover parking. Guests wanting to shop should head to the Gateway Complex, five kilometres from the hotel, reputed to be the largest shopping centre in the southern hemisphere, complete with cinemas, live theatre and skate park amongst other entertainments. The hotel is approximately 40 kilometres or a 30 minute drive from Durban Airport.

Directions

From airport take the N2 and exit at 'Phonenix/Mt Edgcombe'. Proceed over the bridge and go continue ahead at the traffic lights. Take the Umhlanga/la lucia Ridge off ramp. At the top of the off ramp turn left again. Continue straight ahead over the roundabout and then at the roundabout after Umhlanga Hospital turn right. At the third set of traffic lights turn right. The first entrance on the left hand side leads to the hotel's parking, found on the 3rd floor.
