We had planned to spend just a night in Guayaquil before taking a 24 hour bus ride to Lima, Peru. Well not quite. First our awesome camera decided to quit on us and that was like a total disaster as we need to take pictures!!! So on the that first day in town we spent hours searching for a camera. PS. Cannon doesn´t have any authorized dealers here so we couldn´t get what we already had or even find out why it funked out on us. Secondly and much worse the prices of electronic goods are absolutely horrendous. We ended up paying over twice as much for a good camera here as we would have for the same thing in the states. A good lesson - to have a contingency plan for lost, stolen or broken cameras?????

We didn´t see much of the city and honestly weren´t particulary sad to leave.....

We did however get the chance to soften our views of Guayquil ever so slightly. Our bus was cancelled due to mechanical issues so we had to spend another night there. We used the opportunity tocheck out Malecon and the historical neighborhood of Las Penas. Both had been completely renovated from dangerous, seedy and dirty areas to one of the city´s prides as a clean, safe and interesting place to visit.

Either way we enjoyed our tour but were glad to move on to Peru.  We arrived in Lima 24+ hours later and one look at it and decided that we don´t really want to spend a night there and will just bare it and take another 6-8 hour ride to Nasca - totally worth it but that is a new entry!
